Which CPR Training Does Your Healthcare Team Need?
Healthcare professionals may need different levels of CPR training depending on their job responsibilities, employer, educational program or credentialing requirements. Northern Nevada CPR offers BLS for healthcare professionals as well as CPR, AED and First Aid training for employees whose roles call for other training options.
If you are unsure which course your team needs, check your employer's or training program's requirements before scheduling.
BLS (Basic Life Support)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) training is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to recognize life-threatening emergencies and perform CPR and other essential resuscitation skills.
BLS training includes CPR, AED use and skills appropriate for responding to cardiac and respiratory emergencies in healthcare settings.
Best for:
-
Medical offices and outpatient clinics
-
Dental practices and dental teams
-
Healthcare facilities and care organizations
-
Nurses and other healthcare professionals
-
Healthcare students and clinical training programs
-
Medical teams and other personnel required to maintain BLS certification
Approximate training time: 3.5–4 hours, depending on the course format and requirements.
CPR, AED & First Aid
A combined CPR, AED and First Aid course helps prepare employees to respond to cardiac emergencies, choking and other medical situations covered by the selected course.
Approximate training time: 3.5–5 hours, depending on the course and requirements.
This option may be appropriate for nonclinical staff, administrative teams and other employees whose roles require CPR and First Aid rather than BLS.
CPR and AED training helps employees recognize cardiac arrest, activate emergency response, perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Training also covers choking response.
This option may be appropriate for healthcare office employees or support staff who need CPR and AED training but do not require BLS certification for their role.
Approximate training time: 1.5–3.5 hours, depending on the course and requirements.
