First Aid Kit Checklist for Businesses

Everything your workplace needs to stay OSHA-compliant and prepared for medical emergencies.​

Wound Care

[ ] Adhesive bandages (assorted sizes) — Minimum 16 per kit; include knuckle and fingertip sizes

[ ] Sterile gauze pads (2”x2” and 4”x4”) — At least 4 of each size per kit 

[ ] Roller gauze / conforming bandage — 2 rolls minimum 

[ ] Medical-grade adhesive tape (1” roll) 

[ ] Triangular bandage / sling (2 count) — Used for arm slings and large wound dressings 

[ ] Elastic bandage / ACE wrap (3” and 4”) 

[ ] Wound closure strips / butterfly closures 

[ ] Tourniquets (CAT or similar) — Highly recommended for construction, manufacturing, and high-risk environments

Cleaning & Infection Control

[ ] Antiseptic wipes (10+ packets) — Individually wrapped

[ ] Antiseptic solution or spray 

[ ] Sterile saline eyewash solution (4 fl oz minimum) 

[ ] Burn treatment gel or dressing

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

[ ] Disposable nitrile gloves (minimum 2 pair) — Non-latex; required for bloodborne pathogen compliance

[ ] CPR face shield or pocket mask 

[ ] Safety glasses / eye protection

Instruments & Miscellaneous

[ ] Medical-grade scissors (bandage scissors) 

[ ] Tweezers (splinter / fine tip) 

[ ] Instant cold packs (2 count) 

[ ] Emergency blanket (mylar / thermal)

AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

[ ] AED unit present and accessible

[ ] AED is clearly marked with visible signage

[ ] AED pads not expired — Adult pads typically expire every 2 years; add pediatric pads if children are on-site

[ ] AED battery not expired or low

[ ] AED maintenance log is current

Staff Training & Certification

[ ] At least one trained first aid responder per shift 

[ ] CPR-certified employees on each shift — Recommended minimum: 1 per 25 employees or per floor

[ ] All certifications current (not expired past 2 years) 

[ ] Training records stored and accessible — Keep copies of certification cards; important for OSHA inspections 

[ ] Bloodborne pathogens training completed annually — Required for any employee potentially exposed to blood or bodily fluids 

[ ] Staff trained on AED operation and CPR together

[ ] Annual refresher training or drills scheduled

Emergency Action Plan

[ ] Written Emergency Action Plan (EAP) in place — Required for businesses with 10+ employees

[ ] Emergency phone numbers posted at all phones/stations — Include 911, Poison Control (1-800-222-1222)

[ ] Designated first aid responders identified and communicated to staff 

[ ] First aid kit location known to all employees

[ ] AED location posted on floor map / signage 

[ ] Nearest hospital / urgent care route known — Post driving directions or include in EAP

[ ] Incident / injury reporting procedure documented 

[ ] EAP reviewed with staff annually or after incidents

Kit Placement & Ongoing Maintenance

[ ] First aid kit mounted in accessible, visible location — Must not require a key or special access 

[ ] One kit per 50–100 employees (or per floor/zone) 

[ ] Kit inspected monthly — all items present and unexpired

[ ] Used items replaced promptly after each use 

[ ] Inspection log maintained (date, inspector, items checked) 

[ ] Kit sealed or tamper-evident when not in use 

[ ] Vehicle first aid kits inspected (if company vehicles used)

Higher-Risk Industries

(Construction, Healthcare, Food Service — As Applicable)

[ ] Eye wash station installed within 10 seconds of hazard — Required if corrosive materials are used on-site 

[ ] Emergency shower available near chemical exposure areas

[ ] Exposure control plan for bloodborne pathogens (written) — Required for healthcare, dental, and any worker exposed to blood 

[ ] Sharps containers (biohazard-labeled) in place 

[ ] Epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) available if at-risk staff — Notify all staff of its location 

[ ] Naloxone (Narcan) available per Nevada workplace guidelines 

[ ] Stretcher or backboard accessible for high-risk worksites
