Basic Life Support (BLS)

The American Heart Association requires each student to have the current textbook for this course. If you already own one or have access to one, please bring it to class. If you do not have access to one, you can purchase a book HERE or request a link to purchase the manual when scheduling a class.

Course Topics Include:

  • Scene safety and the BLS chain of survival

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

  • Rapid use of and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Effective ventilations using a bag mask device

  • Team-based resuscitation and communication

  • Recognition of cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and opioid-related emergencies

  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction in adults, children, and infants​

Who should take this course?

This course is intended for healthcare providers and professional rescuers, including nurses, physicians, medical and dental staff, EMS personnel, in-home caregivers, and other clinical professionals who require BLS certification for their role.
